About Haunted Whittier

It was the spring of 2020, as the pandemic set in. Looking for an outdoor activity for local residents, Whittier native Jacob Caputo had an idea to combine his interests in history and the paranormal with his gift for storytelling. Haunted Whittier was born, producing intriguing, spine-chilling ghost tour experiences for both locals and ghost-hunters throughout the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas.

Haunted Whittier Ghost Tours delves deep into the historic archives. We’ve interviewed dozens of firsthand experiencers, and conducted vast and thorough research. We know where the bodies are buried, literally.

If you love hauntingly strange stories, unique history & shivers down your spine, you should definitely come along.

Shadowy alleyways, historic homes, vintage buildings, a park with a secret, and wild spaces – Whittier possesses an overabundance of local legends, tragedies, and ghostly residents. Below are just a few of the stories…

A vintage black and white photo of police and investigators examining the airplane crash that killed all on board when it went down in Turnbull Canyon, Whittier, CA, in 1952.

Turnbull Canyon

Turnbull Canyon, just above Whittier, includes a terrifying collection of stories, some that are folklore, and some that are nightmarishly true – including Flight 416, which left New York on April 16, 1952, and crashed into the hills, killing all 29 souls aboard. Over the years, multiple deaths have occurred in the canyon. To this day, visitors to Turnbull Canyon don’t tend to stay long, reporting a feeling of being watched. Could it be the spirits of those who encountered tragedies here?

Whittier's Wardman Theater after its glory days, as it fell on hard times in the 1970s and became a Pussycat movie house for adult entertainment.

Haunted Theater

Built in the 1930s, the Wardman Theater was originally home to first-run movies and vaudeville acts. In the 1970s, it fell onto hard times and was converted to adult entertainment, and a predatory male ghost who met his end while working there moved in. Today, the art deco theater is beautifully restored and has returned to showing Hollywood’s best films, but the spirits still remain, making their presence known.

An abandoned cemetery in Whittier, CA with overgrown headstones and unkept grounds in the 1960s, long overdue for attention.

Ghostly Parks

Whittier’s Mount Olive Cemetery opened in 1888 and reached capacity in less than 15 years. In the 1960s, the cemetery became abandoned and dilapidated. The City of Whittier voted to convert the cemetery into a park– but did they move the bodies along with the headstones? Come find out and hear the fate of Founders Park (aka Deadman’s Park), with its mysterious fog, late night sightings, and spirits who follow you home.

The Dead Leave Imprints

Environments absorb energy – trauma, joy, ritual, and death can “imprint” on a space. Most people are sensitive to energetic cues, such as architecture, light, smell, silence, which carry an emotional echo that lingers long after an event or a people have died. So while science might not yet certify the existence of ghosts, most people sense that not everything dies with the body. There’s something in our bones that knows the past never fully leaves the present. At Haunted Whittier, we’ve seen, heard, and felt some truly unsettling things over the years, and we’re dying to share these stories with you.

A ghostly woman in a white dress wanders away from the camera, haunting the roadsides in Turnbull Canyon, Whittier, California.

Lady in White

Legends suggest she may be the spirit of a heartbroken woman. Some versions say she died in a car accident, and some say she was with child, her tragic ending coming as a result of being rejected by the baby’s father. Those who’ve had sightings of her say she floats just above the ground, and disappears into thin air. Whether the Lady in White is a sorrowful guardian or an echo of loss, she remains one of Turnbull Canyon’s most enduring paranormal mysteries.

Highly recommend taking this tour! We did this tour with Jacob and he was amazing!

We learned a lot about this historic district of Whittier and Jacob was a masterful story teller about all that has happened in the area as well as some famous Hollywood movie film locations. Without a doubt if you are thinking about taking a ghost or haunted mansion tour do this one!

Tour was great, truly a 5-star experience.

Jacob’s knowledge of this spooky town of Whittier throws chills down your spine. As you walk through the gloomy night of uptown Whittier you get transported back into history and the memories of the past flood back like they never left.

A great date night with my Hubby.

Jacob was so informative and had some great Whittier ghost history on our walking ghost tour. Our families have lived in Whittier since the 1940s and we thought we knew most of it, but no we didn’t. We are already planning our next tour. Spooky, Fun, Informative and Goosebumpy. I was sad when it was over.
